I Stuck My Foot in My Mouth — The #1 Certified Expert You Need to Manage Your Business!

I flubbed! It happens!

Hello, my lovely,

Well, I stuck my foot in my mouth — well, only a little bit.

After my previous blog, I was on a mission to keep discovering more about virtual assistants’ expectations.

Now, let me get this off my chest. I vowed I would never go back to an admin role again …

Why?

I’ve been doing it all my life. I would roll my eyes, cry wolf, and shake my fist at the screen. Saying … “ I am sick of it.”

But, guess what? Organizing is what I do very, very well.

When I went looking for an EA position (while I slowly transitioned to my business), I had full confidence I would get a position, quickly — Sorry, Charlie.

I was baffled! I am not sure why my 15+ years of admin services and 6 years as an executive assistant were just not catching someone’s eye.

I kept thinking — “What the Heck?”

  • Was I asking for too much money? — Most likely.

  • Did I lack the current skill trends? — Just a small trace, but I didn’t know it at that time.

This stemmed my research and blog on Admin Assistants - AA expectations.

The Blog Was All True … But …

Though my research was on point, I flubbed just a touch.

Why didn’t I go back and fix the blog? No one would know: I would’ve known lol — I am human and this stemmed the encouragement for this blog.

Keep reading, I will make it for it.

Then Why Did I Write It?

I have seen too many jobs asking for an AA to take on copywriting, admin duties, and marketing for $16.00/hr.

🤣🤪🙄— that’s a big fat no.

I had to say something because:

  • I feel business owners know what they need; they may not know how to say what they need.

  • They may not understand what training is needed to benefit their business, save them money, and time.

  • They could be afraid to pay for services and not see results.

I Cracked and Ranted:

After another rejection from a Virtual Assistant Agency, I was just blah. Though their rejection email was super kind and amazing (great copy), they extended an offer to sign up for their newsletter. I thought, why not?

And then, something interesting happened.

VaVa Virtual Assistant offered me a discount to take their Virtual Assistant Mastery Certification course. After a few nurturing emails, a side-cock of my head, and a coupon discount — I did it.

I Already Knew 90% of the Course:

The other 10% leads to education for the newest software — Customer Relationship Management and Project Management. — Hello, Virtual World!

I’d been asked several times if I knew the software like — Asana, Monday, ClickUp, or Trello. Though I had been trained and certified with HubSpot, I thought I could pick up on programs pretty quickly. Companies do not want to hear that during an interview!

Ding Ding Ding!

The bell rang in my head!

This is where I faltered. I needed more education to validate my authority!

I was instantly certified! I had a big smile on my face! I did learn something new; I needed to better serve my clients.

I was flabbergasted at all the extra goodies in the virtual world setting. I assumed everyone used Google Workspace or Microsoft Office to communicate.

What an amazing discovery to add my resume!

What Did the VaVa Virtual Assistant Mastery Course Teach Me?

The expectations of an Admin Assistant have grown with the virtual world.

  • However, I do not feel a new AA needs to be a copywriter, social media manager, or digital marketer.

  • The extra stress will cost you more money and more turnover in your office setting.

My professional opinion still remains — keep the expectations of the position to the position.

Let your AA manage:

  • Daily task — email, phones, and calendar.

  • Clients — directing, communication, and the center point of contact.

  • Social Media Scheduling — organize the flow for what you want and on which platform.

The Digital World Needs More Certifications — Smooth Operators!

If your AA is ready to step up their game, invest in VaVa Virtual. They will help direct your AA to a higher standard and more detailed certifications.

Such as:

There Are Many Levels to an Executive Assistant (EA):

  • Most EAs will hold a certification or a bachelor’s degree.

  • Your EA is a mid-level. More than the person at the door. Depending on the business, they can be the business owner’s right hand or an EA to a mid-level corp/manager.

  • Senior EA is over an EA at the highest level with plenty of experience. Tend to be at the CEO level.

Still — Hire a Freelance Pro:

When in doubt, and to keep your AA or EA who may not be comfortable with copywriting and marketing, plus going into “internal scream mode.” Here’s a few more suggestions.

  • Upwork is a great place to post a free ad and find the right fit for your specific project! Hourly or by project rates. Writers, editors, web developers, product testers, just to name a few.

  • Yes, you can find Virtual Assistants, copywriters, social media managers, and digital marketers.

  • Or better yet, offer to pay for the above-linked certification, which will benefit your business with someone you already trust — a bonus on their resume!

Still need a hand on what to do?

  • Website concerns?

  • Blogs?

  • Virtual assistant tips?

  • The status and value of monitoring your marketing?
